MY STORY
My name is Anton Popov. I am a first generation American. My parents are immigrants from Russia and Ukraine. I played football at Barton College (D2, 4 years — wide receiver and punt returner), Catawba College (D2, 1 year — wide receiver, kick/punt returner), and Warner University (NAIA, 1 semester — wide receiver, strong safety, free safety, and returner). I finished my senior year switching to safety, playing 6 games on defense, and earned an invite to compete in the FCS National Bowl as a safety and punt returner. From there, I was invited to the FBS Tropical Bowl as an “Athlete” to compete against ACC and SEC talent, where I earned the NFL CBS Sports Standout Wide Receiver honor as a Division II player. There, I was able to showcase my flexibility on the field, bouncing around from outside receiver, slot, running back, and returning punts. I later competed in a Pro Day at North Carolina State University as a wide receiver in front of scouts from all 32 NFL teams and a handful of CFL general managers.
Let me take you back to March 25th, 2025. I wasn’t even supposed to be there. I just showed up. Out of 50 prospects, I was one of a handful of Division 2 players in a room full of Division 1 talent. 44 guys got sent home before testing even wrapped up. I was one of six asked to stay behind for a private workout — in front of scouts from all 32 NFL teams.
No script. No guarantee. Just the moment. That’s when I learned something that stuck with me forever — when uncertainty is highest, the pressure should fade you. Not fuel you. Not scare you. Fade.
The noise disappears. The outside world disappears. All that’s left is what you’ve built in private when no one was watching. That moment didn’t hand me a contract. But it handed me something more durable — the ability to walk into any high-stakes room, calm, prepared, and clear-minded.
After my pro day with 32 NFL teams and a few CFL workouts where no one pulled the trigger, I stepped into real estate and haven’t looked back since. I still train athletes and actively pursue professional opportunities while I balance real estate development and training. The arena changed. The principles of life didn’t.
